McGinnis Tapped for Leadership Roles in State and National Professional Associations
McGinnis was named chairperson of the Elder Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association in June. The Elder Law Section provides education to its members, makes recommendations for improving the law, and undertakes projects to increase the understanding of senior citizens, their families and the public concerning legal issues affecting the elderly. In her role, McGinnis will chair the organization’s Executive Committee and oversee the production of the annual Elder Law Forum, an educational event for attorneys.
In October, McGinnis will begin a two-year term as president of the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association. The Life Care Planning Law Firms Association is a national network of holistic law practices that offer legal services, care coordination and advocacy support to help elderly clients and their families respond to the challenges of aging, long-term illness and disability.
McGinnis is attorney and partner at Elder Law Practice of Timothy L. Takacs, PLLC in Hendersonville. Since joining the firm in 2011, McGinnis has provided legal expertise on a wide range of client issues with a focus on Medicaid, Veterans benefits and probate matters. She is also a VA-accredited attorney. McGinnis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, a Master’s degree as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner from Vanderbilt University and a Juris Doctor degree from Nashville School of Law. Before receiving her license to practice law in Tennessee, Barbara spent more than 20 years as a Registered Nurse and Gerontological Nurse Practitioner working in a variety of settings.
