National Healthcare Decisions Day is April 16 - 22 Urges Americans to Make Their Wishes Known
Advance directives allow individuals to document end-of-life wishes in the event that they are terminally ill or critically injured and unable to talk or communicate.
“National Healthcare Decisions Day is a time of awareness and education focused on encouraging everyone, including those who are healthy and in the prime of their life, to think about and document care treatment preferences before a crisis,” said Timothy L. Takacs, a Certified Elder Law Attorney, founder and partner at Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law, a Hendersonville-based elder care law practice that has been assisting clients with advance care planning and end-of-life decision-making for more than 25 years. “As a result of National Healthcare Decisions Day, fewer families and healthcare providers will have to struggle with making difficult healthcare decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient,” said Certified Elder Law Attorney Barbara Boone McGinnis, partner at Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law. “Healthcare providers and facilities will be better equipped to address advance healthcare planning issues before a crisis and be better able to honor patient wishes when the time comes to do so.”
In honor of National Healthcare Decisions Day, Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law has collected an array of educational videos, articles, and links to helpful resources that individuals can use to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers.
