Bonnie Woodard Retires After 17 Years of Service

Joining the firm on August 30, 1999, Bonnie was one of the very first employees Tim Takacs hired when he began assembling the interdisciplinary team now known as Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law. Bonnie came to the firm with expert-level knowledge of Medicare honed over a twenty year career with Medicare. Clients loved her encyclopedic knowledge, her gentle spirit, and her ability to bring clarity to even the most complicated Medicare and VA benefits situations.

Bonnie was also the firm’s marketing engine. Using skills acquired while working in public relations roles for Medicare, Bonnie served as editor in chief of the firm’s quarterly newsletter, coordinated community outreach activities, and was a frequent speaker at civic clubs and community events. She was the brainchild behind a number of educational programs, most notably the Time Out Workshop, a one-day continuing education event that has inspired many imitators and is considered by many to be one of Middle Tennessee’s best continuing education events for long-term care professionals.

“It’s truly the end of an era,” said Tim Takacs. “Bonnie was a trailblazer in many ways. She was one of the first Medicare professionals in the nation to apply her knowledge in an elder law environment, and she was a pioneer in the development of the educational outreach programs that have become our firm’s trademark.”

Though Bonnie’s shoes will be hard to fill, we’re excited about the people who will be picking up her responsibilities. Berkley Crain, currently one of the firm’s public benefits specialists, will handle Medicare and VA benefits issues. Dana Hentschel will serve as full-time outreach coordinator, overseeing the firm’s marketing activities and continuing the tradition of educational excellence that Bonnie started. Dana comes to the firm from Elmcroft of Hendersonville where she spent six years as Community Relations Director.

“Bonnie has been a major contributor to the success of Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law,” added Barbara Boone McGinnis. “We have loved working with her and we wish her all the best in her retirement.”
