VA Benefits Seminar Draws a Crowd to Hendersonville VFW
Hosted by VFW Post 9851 and Elder Law Practice of Timothy L. Takacs, Making the Most of Veterans Benefits answered questions about how the VA system works, how to navigate the application process and how to access resources for caregivers. The seminar was open to veterans of all conflicts and all branches of service along with their families.
Presenters included Joe Kennedy, a Benefits Advisor who works for Team CALIBRE, a benefits contractor based at Fort Campbell, KY, who presented an overview of VA benefits, and Heidi Rhodes, Coach, Nashville VA Regional Office, who provided additional insight into VA benefit offerings. Darryl D. Eubanks, Sumner County Veterans Service Officer, explained how to apply for VA pension and compensation benefits. Glenn Wallace from Tennessee Valley Healthcare System delivered a short presentation on navigating the VA Healthcare System, with support by Robert Lim, M.D., also from Tennessee Valley Healthcare System.
The Department of Veterans Affairs and VA Healthcare are two of the largest government programs in existence and navigating those programs can present challenges for veterans and their families. “One of the best things you can do is to educate yourself,” advised VSO Darryl Eubanks.
Presenters offered up a number of resources to participants including hard copies and an online version of a book detailing Veterans Benefits at http://www.va.gov/opa/publications/benefits_book.asp and online resources about topics like ebenefits at www.va.gov.
