Team Tidbits: McGinnis Earns Certified Elder Law Attorney Designation
Attorney Barbara Boone McGinnis, a partner at Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law, has become a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) of the National Elder Law Foundation. With this designation, Ms. McGinnis becomes one of only 14 Certified Elder Law Attorneys in Tennessee, and Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law is the only law firm in Middle Tennessee with two Certified Elder Law Attorneys on staff.
The National Elder Law Foundation is the only organization approved by the American Bar Association to offer certification in the area of elder law, one of the fastest growing fields in the legal profession. Certification in elder law provides a measure of assurance to the public that the attorney has an in-depth working knowledge of the legal issues that impact the elderly.
“Barbara has been a passionate advocate for seniors and those with disabilities throughout her entire career,” said Tim Takacs, CELA, founder of Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law, which until January 1, 2017 was known as Elder Law Practice of Timothy L. Takacs. “This accomplishment makes her part of a small but highly respected group of attorneys in Tennessee who have earned the Certified Elder Law Attorney designation. We are all very proud of her.”
Ms. McGinnis provides legal expertise on a wide range of client issues with a focus on Medicaid, Veterans benefits and probate matters. She is a VA-accredited attorney. She serves as the chairperson of the Elder Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association and as president of the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association, a national network of holistic law practices that offer legal services, care coordination and advocacy support to help elderly clients and their families respond to the challenges of aging, long-term illness and disability. She is a sought-after speaker by civic and community groups who rely on her for insight on matters related to legal, financial and care-related issues affecting the senior population. She is a frequent guest on MorningLine and OpenLine on Nashville’s Channel 5+, and is a regular contributor to Mature Lifestyles Magazine.
