This section also includes practice materials specifically for elder law attorneys and information about The Tennessee Pooled Trust, Tennessee's first special needs "pooled trust" set up to help preserve government benefits for persons with disabilities.

Learn more about our Time Out Workshop, a program we present twice a year for professionals who serve the elderly and persons with disabilities.

New: Life Care Planning for the Elderly Client: Fundamentals and Practice. This unique program, presented by Tim Takacs, David McGuffey, and the staff of the Elder Law Practice, will be held in Hendersonville, Tennessee, on December 1 and 2, 2006. September 14, 2006: Tim Takacs discusses elder law at a Community Education Program hosted by Highland Manor in Portland, Tennessee. Open to the public.

September 23: Sandy Reynolds conducts nursing home advocacy training for clients and their families at Bluegrass Baptist Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

October 4-5, 2006: David McGuffey presents on Medicare secondary payer issues at the Association of Trial Lawyers of America's Nursing Home Seminar in Memphis, Tennessee.

October 6, 2006: Elder Law Practice participates as an exhibitor in the Bordeaux Community and Senior Awareness Day at Bordeaux Long-Term Care Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Open to the public.

Many elderly people -- and not so elderly people -- fear becoming poor during their retirement. As the first of the baby boomer generation -- those born in 1946 and later -- attain age 60 and, at the start of the next decade, full retirement age, for many boomers, the prospect of retirement and its attendant financial uncertainties is uncomfortably close.

Most male workers who retire at age 65 today can expect 15 years of life remaining. Women are likely to live longer. If they are married at retirement, the odds are that they will survive their husbands by several years.
