TEAM TIDBITS: Welcome New Employees

There are a few new faces at the Takacs McGinnis office! 


Chris Johnson, Associate Attorney

Associate Attorney Chris Johnson provides legal expertise on a wide range of client issues with a focus on estate planning, VA benefits, and probate. He is a veteran with 19 years of legal and military experience. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps after graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy, Chris’ career included multiple deployments to Japan and Afghanistan, and he served in a number of roles as an Infantry Officer and Judge Advocate. Prior to his retirement from military service in 2014, Chris had achieved the rank of Major and was heading the Legal Services Support Team serving Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina. After relocating to the Nashville area, Chris worked at a law firm where his practice included elder law, estate planning and administration, probate law, and VA benefits planning. Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Juris Doctor degree from the College of William and Mary School of Law. MORE

Joshua Hunter, Public Benefits Specialist

Joshua Hunter focuses on helping clients understand how to get the most from their Medicare coverage. He also guides veterans and their families through the VA benefits application process. Before joining Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law, Joshua worked as a caregiver for a Cookeville area in-home care firm while in college and landed an internship with the Upper Cumberland Development District's Area Agency on Aging and Disability that evolved into a full-time position while he was still in school. Joshua served in several roles at the agency, including SHIP Benefits Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator, where he managed and trained the team of volunteers providing Medicare assistance to seniors and disabled adults. Joshua earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with a concentration in social work from Tennessee Technological University. MORE

Jennifer Berkon, Paralegal

Jennifer Berkon provides legal support to the firm’s attorneys in the area of estate planning, trust, and asset protection matters. She meets with clients, handles document signings, and coordinates the activities needed to complete the set-up and funding of trusts. She brings more than 16 years of paralegal experience to the Takacs McGinnis team. Before joining the firm, Jennifer worked as a paralegal for a Nashville firm specializing in bankruptcy law. When the firm changed ownership and added estate planning to its practice area, she provided legal support to the attorney working on those cases. Jennifer holds an associate degree in paralegal studies from Volunteer State Community College and a bachelor’s degree in social and behavioral sciences from Western Kentucky University. MORE
