Debra King, LMSW, Elder Care Coordinator

Debra joined Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law as an Elder Care Coordinator in 2006, bringing ten years of experience as a discharge planner with a major Nashville hospital to serve Takacs McGinnis clients. This experience gives her a special understanding of the needs and challenges facing the elderly and their families during every phase of the care continuum.

A Licensed Master Social Worker, Debra is active in her profession. She has been a member of the Mid-Cumberland Council of Healthcare Social Workers since 1997 and served on that organization's Board of Directors for four years. She is a member of the Senior Services Network and a former member of its Board of Directors. As a member of the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association, she has played a major role in the development of educational programs for care coordinators.

Debra recently earned a Certificate of Completion from the University of Florida and the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association for successful completion of a 120-hour Elder Care Coordination course offered by the university.

In her spare time, Debra enjoys organizing family photographs into scrapbooks that lovingly document her family heritage. She has been scrapbooking since 1998. “I fell in love with it,” said Debra, who sold the Creative Memories line of scrapbooking products for 15 years. “Scrapbooking makes it possible for me to relive memories while creating something the whole family can enjoy.” Debra’s talent also resulted in scrapbooks that the entire Elder Law Practice staff could enjoy; she designed the scrapbooks commemorating the Elder Law Practice’s milestone anniversaries.

Card making, Debra’s other hobby, was a natural outgrowth of scrapbooking. She began by using her scrapbooking supplies to make birthday and anniversary cards for Elder Law Practice staff members. “When my colleagues saw my creations, they wanted to know how to make them, too,” said Debra, who eventually launched a monthly “Card Club” where Takacs McGinnnis staff members craft four greeting cards at a time. Card Club members have created cards for Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, birthdays, Easter, Christmas and more. “There’s so much creativity in this office,” added Debra, who admitted that she is responsible for getting Tim’s wife, Lynn, addicted to the card-making process. “We go online to find designs we like then we make them. And the guys participate, too. It’s great fun to get together, snack and create.
