Position Overview
The Associate Attorney provides client services such as estate planning matters including wills, trusts and asset protection. This role requires a commitment to providing exceptional legal services to our clients.
Job Location Hendersonville, TN
Qualifications
• Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• 1-5 years of experience in complex estate planning, trusts, wills, real estate transactions, deed drafting, probate, and case management for court proceedings; understanding of the basic characteristics of financial investments, e.g., annuities, life insurance, retirement accounts, stocks, bonds, etc. Trust administration, probate and basic real estate transaction skills are necessary.
• Licensure: Valid license to practice law in Tennessee and in good standing with the Board of Professional responsibility.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. English primary language.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and direction.
• Attention to detail is critically important with strong analytical skills.
• High level of skill with computer programs required: Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word. Lexis Nexis MyCase® preferred.
Responsibilities
Legal
• Complex estate and long-term care planning (i.e. Medicaid and VA), document drafting, conducts estate planning document signings; probate administration; trust funding and beneficiary changes.
Client Relations
• Keep case files organized and up to date; maintain calendar and meet deadlines; document all client related activities; input information into file database and case management software.
• Keep clients informed by maintaining contact and communicating case progress.
• Demonstrate a high command of business writing and well-developed math skills.
• Organize, present, and participate in educational programs for clients and families.
Community Relations and Marketing
• Represent the firm to financial institutions, government agencies and court personnel through frequent contact.
• Participate in professional organizations to enhance skills and communicate with the firm’s services.
• Educate the community about the firm’s services and service model through speaking engagements, and networking.
• Collaborate with financial advisors, and other professionals to ensure integrated planning solutions.
General
• Demonstrate exceptional client communication skills, a desire to help others and be comfortable working with older people, people with disabilities, their families and other professionals.
• Display high frustration tolerance with patience and kindness toward clients and co-workers
• Maintain strict confidentiality for the firm’s clients.
• Possess a professional appearance and demeanor.
• Work independently.
• Work a regular full-time weekly schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 pm with a one-hour lunch.
• Valid Tennessee driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
• Other duties as assigned
Vision
• To educate potential clients about the Life Care Plan and Elder Law Practice.
• To gain new clients.

• To provide timely services and follow-up to meet our customers’ needs, whether they are clients or potential clients.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree with 3 -5 years of relevant experience in health care, social work or long-term care setting.
• Excellent communication skills. English primary language.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and direction.
• Attention to detail is critically important with strong analytical skills.
• High level of skill with computer programs required: Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Mycase® preferred.
Client Care
• Promote our services to potential clients through initial consultation and follow-up calls.
• Educate potential clients and clients regarding the Elder Care Coordinator Role.
• Provide assessment of client function and client needs through Elder Care Coordinator visit and Assessment process.
• Monitor PAE process.
• Schedule follow up visits, meetings/annual review process.
• Develop and update client plan of care.
• Maintain Life Care Planning Binder for client.
• Telephone counseling and support to families making tough decisions related to placement, transitions, and end of life care.
• Information to families related to services available, policy, reimbursement issues, advocacy.
• Education of clients and families related to current issues through training modules, Learning Café’s, blogs, newsletter articles.
• As Team Contact, provide information to other team members to help them meet client needs, including case conference, team meetings, etc.
• Maintain client documents with the assistance of the legal assistant.
-Monitor that documents are properly executed.
-Scan executed documents into Mycase®.
-Return original documents to client in a timely manner.
• Keep up to date notes in documents system.
• Maintain current tasks for each client.
• Maintain calendar for Elder Care Coordinator and attorney.
• Monitor and assist with asset restructuring, completing forms, obtaining signatures, follow as needed.
• Advocate for clients’ legal right to quality healthcare and long-term care.
• No hands-on care to be provided.
Customer Service
• Develop and maintain relationships with community care providers.
• Provide information to the community interested in our services.
-Individually through follow up calls.
-As a group through community presentations, vendor fairs, marketing appointments.
• Attend monthly networking meetings to develop new relationships and education community about the Johnson McGinnis Elder Care Law, PLLC.
• Participate in leadership opportunities in the community through organizations.
• Collaborate with local education programs to offer internships and educational programs.
Team Development
• Actively participate in team functions, including in-services, staff meetings, education programs.
• Assist other team members with client care/customer service.
• Provide adequate information to team members and follow and support as needed (deed prep forms, information needed for LCP binder, PAE requests in writing, VA checklist, VA forms, etc).
General
• Demonstrate exceptional client communication skills, a desire to help others and be comfortable working with older people, people with disabilities, their families, and other professionals.
• Display high frustration tolerance with patience and kindness toward clients.
• Maintain highest standard of confidentiality for the firm’s clients.
• Possess a professional appearance and demeanor.
• Work independently.
• Work a regular full time weekly schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 pm with one hour lunch.
• Valid Tennessee driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
• Reports to Partners for client related matters
• Serve on Performance Improvement teams as needed
• This position is not available for permanent remote work assignments
• Other duties as assigned by Partners
