Joshua Hunter is one of the firm’s Public Benefits Specialists. He focuses on helping clients understand how to get the most from their Medicare coverage. He also guides veterans and their families through the VA benefits application process.
Before joining Takacs McGinnis Elder Care Law, Joshua held a variety of roles that touched the lives of seniors. During college, he worked as a caregiver for a Cookeville area in-home care firm. Before graduation, he landed an internship with the Upper Cumberland Development District’s Area Agency on Aging and Disability that evolved into a full-time position while he was still in school. Joshua served in several roles at the agency, including Wellness Site Champion; a member of the Senior Medicare Patrol support staff, where he worked to combat Medicare fraud; and SHIP Benefits Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator, where he managed and trained the team of volunteers providing Medicare assistance to seniors and disabled adults. “Teaching Medicare helped me learn it,” said Joshua. “I loved every minute I spent with SHIP clients and volunteers. They’re all rock stars!”
Joshua is passionate about his role as an advocate for senior health. During the 2018 Annual Enrollment Period, Joshua saved Takacs McGinnis clients $94,100 on their Part D prescription drug coverage. During the same period in 2017, while he was working for SHIP, he saved Medicare beneficiaries from the Upper Cumberland region a total of $450,000 on their prescription coverage.
Joshua earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with a concentration in social work from Tennessee Technological University. He is currently working on a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling.
During his free time, Joshua enjoys painting, personal training, and spending time with his wife, MaryLue, and their beloved rescued pit bull, Callie.
